Why Hall-Effect Sticks Matter (and Who Doesn't Need Them)

A traditional analog stick uses potentiometers โ€” a wiper sliding on a carbon track. Every movement wears the track, and eventually the resting position reads as a tiny push. That is stick drift, and it is not a manufacturing defect; it is the part reaching the end of its life.

Hall-effect sticks replace the wiper with a magnet and a sensor. Nothing touches, nothing wears, and the resting value stays at zero for the life of the controller. They also allow tighter dead zones, which is why competitive players notice the difference on day one.

Who does not need them: if you play mostly on a couch with a controller you replace every few years anyway, a good potentiometer stick is fine and cheaper. If you play daily, play precision games, or have already replaced a drifting controller, buy hall-effect once and stop thinking about it.
